New York may have Paris beat in some departments, but we can't argue that our bistros are full of European charm. Andrew Carmellini remasters and pays tribute to France's regional cuisines at his grand, all-day bakery/brasserie/marketplace on the corner of Lafayette and Great Jones. Buttery gusts of carbs fills the light-filled contemporary dining room at all times of the day, but save room for the Parisian classics: escargot, N'awlins-style beef tartare with a tabasco aioli, steak frites with a richer-than-rich béarnaise butter.
