Tour of Magritte’s Home—and Mind—on Governors Island

Thursday, September 1, 2016
Surrealist artist Rene Magritte once said of his paintings that they "evoke mystery." Mystery is definitely on the menu at this site-specific, immersive theater experience at House 17 in Nolan Park on Governors Island. The premise: Magritte is selling his home upon the death of his father and you, an interested buyer, will tour the digs. But as you travel farther into the rooms, it's clear that it's more than real estate that you are assessing. The excursion through Magritte's own imagination—and the ghosts that haunt it—is fanciful and intriguing. A provocative immersive play for $15? Count us in. Plus, you can experience an entire day of oddity as mono-wheel vehicles take over Governors Island for the NYC Unicycle Festival from the Bindlestiff Family Variety Arts. The unicycle hockey match might be as surreal as the play. Details: The Enchanted Realm of Rene Magritte Nolan Park House 17 on Governors Island Show runs through September 25, Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets $15
