Dorothy and Toto, Larger Than Life

If you have a kid between the ages of five and 85, you've probably seen The Wizard of Oz a few dozen times—even if you still have to cover your eyes when the flying monkeys are on screen. Chances are, you haven't experienced this Technicolor 1939 masterpiece on a big screen, which is why you should head over to the Brooklyn Academy of Music as fast as your ruby slippers will take you.

Fort Greene, the neighborhood that surrounds BAM, is full of great family-friendly restaurants like Habana Outpost (do not miss the grilled corn or the fish tacos), bars like DSK (a German-style beer garden that features dozens of beers), and boutiques. And if some of your smaller filmgoers have too much candy and need to play, Fort Greene Park is just around the corner.
